VPN support is now available through an over-the-air (OTA) update to all existing NextD Players. The OTA Update was released on 8/4/2016. If you have not seen the pop up window prompting you to update the system software, you can do so manually by following these steps:
1. Click on the Settings app on the NextD desktop screen.
2. Scroll all the way down then click on "About Device" on the left navigation panel.
3. On the right side of the "About Device" screen, click on "System Update"
4. Click on the "Check for Update" button then follow the on screen instructions to download, then install the update.
If the users have networking routers that support VPN functionalities, we recommend that the user setup VPN at the networking router. The benefit of this approach is that the NextD Player and NextD Remote can remain on the same network so that they can communicate with each other.
If you do not want to use the router VPN, please note that once your NextD Player connect to the Internet via VPN, it will become invisible to the NextD Remote app since logically they are no long on the same local network. A solution to this is using a VPN app that support "split tunneling" so that the NextD Player remains visiting to the NextD Remote. A list of VPN apps that supports "split tunneling" can be found in the Google Play Store.
